We are seeking to recruit an outreach and engagement officer on a fixed term contract (July 2017 until October 2017 – with the possibility of extension if further funding is secured)

Responsible for: planning, delivering and facilitating pilot projects and outreach events during our autumn tour to enhance the circus experience for all of Circus Starr’s diverse audience across the UK.

Hours of Work : Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (to be worked flexibly over 7 days)

Salary : (Dependant on experience)

Scope of the job:

Liaise with the box office team to identify participants for projects in pursuit of our mission to make Circus Starr the most inclusive circus in the UK.  

Work with charities and other organisations distributing tickets to promote pilots and projects, increase community engagement - providing relevant information as necessary to encourage involvement and recruit project participants.

Liaise with audio describers and other access experts to ensure smooth running of projects and explore ideas of how we can integrate adaptations to the performance sustainably into the future.

Organise and facilitate pre-show touch tours and act as front of house at shows tackling any issues as they arise to ensure maximum enjoyment of the circus experience for all.  

Collect and collate feedback and case studies for reporting back purposes

Take photographs and or film to document projects to illustrate case studies and reports – including seeking all necessary consents 

Duties and key responsibilities:

Responsible for organising and delivering projects with the support of Communications and Engagement Manager

Communicate clearly and represent the organisation wherever necessary over the telephone, at meetings and events to promote projects and ensure successful delivery of projects.

Maintaining and developing relationships with a range of stakeholders – e.g. cast and crew, freelancers, charity partners and families with children with additional needs. 

Report back on the output of activities held.

Originate ideas for others ways Circus Starr can lengthen the impact of the work and create deeper engagement with audiences.

Undertake other duties as directed by the Directors

Relevant work experience/other experience

Project Planning/ Management experience including monitoring and reporting

Experience of community engagement and achieving successful participation in projects involving “hard to reach” families

Particular Skills/Abilities

Full driving licence, confident driver with own transport (mileage paid)

Organise, facilitate and managing events

Excellent interpersonal skills to enable effective working in a diverse community

Demonstrate keen interest in third sector / working with vulnerable children families and those needing extra support to attend and enjoy live circus art  

Ability to negotiate with individuals, organisations and businesses to secure objectives

Ability to work with minimum supervision, to prioritise effectively and to meet tight deadlines

DBS clearance required

Personal Qualities

Ability to foster “a can do” culture by actively seeking solutions to problems

Flexibility, enthusiasm and the ability to lead and/or work as part of a small team

Excellent verbal and written skills

Ability to motivate others

Be confident and dynamic

Any Additional Job-related requirements

Must be willing to travel to Big Top shows involving undertaking occasional evening, weekend work and over-nights.

Interest in working with children and their families to break down the barriers to accessing mainstream arts.
