Eleven year old Alfie is an avid gamer that often struggles with new places and experiences because he has Autism, ADHD and Dyspraxia.
We spoke to his Mum, Leigh, to see how it can have an impact on family life.
“Days and nights have to be centred around Alfie’s needs and it can be difficult taking him to new places. It can cause anxiety and we often have to go home when things become too much for him.”
Naturally Leigh had been cautious about taking Alfie to events like ours but decided to give Circus Starr a try.
“He has never been to a circus before as it may be more than he could handle with the loud noises and lots of people. However, the tickets we received from you made it so much easier. The show was intimate and it felt welcoming and fun.
I can honestly say that we all felt relaxed, at ease and included! The way that you have catered for kids with difficulties is commendable. Everyone there had an additional need in one way one way or another which added to the feeling of inclusion and acceptance. That’s something money can’t buy, and you guys are doing such an amazing thing, and helping makes children’s lives more enjoyable and accessible.
As soon as we got home he wanted to write you a thank you card. The smiles on his face when he was watching the spinning plates was wonderful to see. I could tell he was relaxed, happy and thoroughly enjoying the show. To be honest we all enjoyed it, including hubby!”
It is fantastic to hear that the whole family had a great time at our inclusive event. Of course Leigh knows that this was only possible thanks to the support or businesses in her area, and she had a lovely message for us to pass on.
“We are so grateful to have been invited to this wonderful evening of fun. I wish to thank you for those tickets, they made a little boy very, very happy!”
