Elvis, aged 4, attended our magical show with his little sister, Peggy-Sue, aged 2.

The pair love spending time outdoors, and you can often find them digging and planting in the garden!

The siblings received free tickets to our inclusive event because Elvis has additional learning needs. Their mum, Dora, told us how this means that family outings can become quite challenging.

“Elvis finds many environments overwhelming, loud noises, big crowds, unfamiliar routines. He struggles to enjoy places where he feels he has to mask who he is. This means we’re limited in where we can go together as a family. It’s hard seeing your child feel out of place, and even harder explaining to your other children why some days out just aren’t possible.”

Attending a commercial circus is something that may have been out of the question for the family due to Elvis’ needs. But Dora told us that the family were able to attend our accessible event due to the relaxed environment we create.

“Honestly, we felt seen and accepted. That doesn’t happen often. There was no pressure to “blend in”. It felt like a space that truly welcomed us as we are. The atmosphere was completely different. Elvis didn’t feel like he had to hide parts of himself. There was joy and excitement, but no judgement. For once, we weren’t worrying about stares or stress, we were just a family having fun.”

At Circus Starr, we pride ourselves on holding events where families can come together and make precious memories. Dora explained to us just how much of a positive impact the event had on them.

“It reminded us that joy is possible, that kindness still exists, and that our children deserve these magical moments just as much as anyone else.

We met the cast after the show and they were so kind, friendly, and warm. They made such an effort with the children and made us feel truly welcome. It wasn’t just a show – it was an experience that stayed with us long after we left.”

We are so happy that our event is so meaningful to people like Dora, Elvis and Peggy-Sue. Our work is only possible thanks to the very kind support we receive from community-driven businesses.

Dora had a message for those who donated towards her tickets.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You gave our family a beautiful memory, something that felt easy and joyful in a life that can often be quite hard. Your support makes a real difference to families like ours. You’ve given us more than a ticket, you’ve given us belonging.”
